I do my banking online, and transfer the transaction data regularly to a spreadsheet where expenditure is itemised under different headings. I track trends month by month, I try to ringfence budgets for different expenses, etc. When I have an income (which I don't at the moment - we live on my husband's salary), I tend to live very much within my means. Budgeting is not a problem for me. It's more of an issue for my husband. We have some work to do there. I’m an excellent budgeter.
