When I say “articles” you may be thinking of a newspaper, or a newsletter. But, the truth is that the elements I’m teaching in this class apply whether you are writing for a blog, an ezine, a print publication, or even for audio podcasts or video. But, how is that possible?

It’s possible because this course teaches the core of good educational storytelling. No matter what medium or channel you are putting your teaching out through- written, audio, video, or in-person, these elements shine through and make what you’re doing more powerful, inspiring, and memorable.

What the course covers.

We’ll cover four major areas.

#1 Focus.
One of the biggest problems with most articles is a lack of focus- in other words, trying to stuff a 300-page book into 500 words or less. I’ll show you how to focus in a way that doesn’t feel like putting on pants that are two sizes two small. Instead, as you understand how to focus, you’ll feel naturally spacious, easy, and creative.

#2 Depth.
The last thing anyone wants to read is another shallow Top Ten list. By bringing depth to your article, without getting mushy or losing focus, you can inspire people and touch their hearts in ways that will have them reaching for more.

#3 Drama.
People love stories. Understanding how to identify drama and how best to use metaphors means that your articles come alive in a way that 99% of the writing out there just doesn’t. There’s an art to spotting engaging drama, and I’ll show you how to do it.

#4 The Art of Writing.
Okay, you’ve got focus, depth, and drama- where to from there? How does it all hang together? I’ll show you three very specific writing techniques (and probably some extras) that will help to bring all these different pieces together into a coherent whole. And I’ll include an additional trick I use in order to break writer’s block.

Focus + Depth + Drama + Art = Articles that carry your business.

When these four pieces come together, suddenly you aren’t starting at a blank screen. Instead, it becomes easy and inspiring to write articles. And, people start responding to you, and wanting to pass your articles along, bringing referals and customers.

Your number-one priority is delivering high quality help to your customers.

How the class works, in three parts.

There are three components to the class: group meetings, homework assignments, and the buddy system.

We meet on the phone, by teleconference, these four times. Class time will be a combination of me teaching, working with examples, and Q&A. And, you don’t need any special equipment- just a phone, and the ability to call a number in the U.S. Participants will be responsible for long-distance charges.

The Buddy System

Writing can be a lonely job, and just sitting and thinking and writing can be exhausting and frustrating. You will be paired up with others during the class to help jump-start your creativity, break your isolation, and create accountability and movement forward, from a compassionate place. Every class I teach, people tell me things like, “The way you have the buddy system is brilliant, Mark. I couldn’t have had all of these breakthroughs without it.”

The Assignments and examples
Value: This is where you get the work done

Each class will have an assignment to complete at least one day prior to the next class, to be turned in to me. Then, I will select a few to work with during the next call as examples. Everyone will learn by seeing how the course content is applied directly, and those chosen will get direct editing and support for their work. Between the third and the final class, your assignment will be to take the elements you’ve created, and put them together to create your article.
