Part-time position open at Heart of Business, Inc.
for Super Detail-Oriented Office Assistant/Manager
We are no longer accepting applications for this position.
Thank you to everyone who applied. You are still welcome to download the application and fill it out- many applicants told us that it helped them get clear on their own job search as it's not one of your 'standard' job applications.
We've got too many opportunities, and not enough time to follow up with them all. This is where you come in.
Heart of Business, Inc. is a heart and spirit-based small business training company. We provide products and services to micro and personal-sized businesses. Every year we've been in business we've grown, and in the last 18 months have taken some big jumps.
We're looking for someone who wants to grow with a growing company, be stretched, learn, and is willing to do a wide variety of tasks and projects to help us do that.
What the job entails:
We are looking for someone to work part of the time here in our close-in NE Portland home office, and part of the time from their own home. The main job is to scoop up all of the admin/office tasks (except the bookkeeping) in order to systematize, integrate, and run them, and also to support us with marketing and business development projects, including outreach to certain communities and organizations.
For right now, this job is 15 hours/week. There is a lot of potential to grow. If you have the oomph and detail-orientation we need so we can keep our eye on the ball, in the next year this position could grow in the number of hours, there can be creative compensation through profit-sharing, and there can be health-care insurance benefits.
Qualities we're looking for.
Must-have's:
- Detail-oriented. Able to track details, and create systems to track details, so that nothing falls through the cracks.
- Great written communication skills.
- Enjoys technology and computers.
- Sterling sense of integrity.
- Very willing to engage positively if things get messy or just feel 'icky.'
Nice extras:
- Start-up mentality. Excited to take a running start at getting things going.
- Able to meet strong personalities without collapsing. We're very nice, and at times we can be feisty, spirited, and direct.
- A natural spirit of generosity and heart-centered-ness.
- Enjoys business and making money.
- Fun, sense of humor. Enjoys laughing. Not afraid to be goofy.
Skills we're looking for.
Must-have's:
- Clear and proven track record with handling many and varied details.
- Top-flight communication skills, both written and conversational.
- Thoroughly familiar, comfortable and happy in a Mac environment.
- Technologically saavy, with a quick learning curve, and ability to self-train on new internet or computer-based applications.
- Familiar with desktop publishing and the internet.
- Some of the applications we use on a daily basis:
- InDesign
- Photoshop
- Eudora email
- Aweber.com autoresponder
- 1shoppingcart.com online shopping cart
- Wordpress
- Transmit ftp application
- Basic html and FTP to update the website.
- Audacity audio recording program for recording and audio editing
Please note that the Qualities we're looking for are way more important than the Skills. While you do need to be really comfortable with Macs, technology, and the internet, and be able to learn new applications, if you aren't familiar with one or more of these applications, but are a self-starting learner, this can still work.
Other details:
We work out of a home office in close-in northeast Portland. Part of the work would be here at our in-home office, so that we can build a real team dynamic among us, and part of the work could easily be at your home, and in-between there will be visits to the Post Office.
This position will be great for:
• A stay-at-home parent who knew her/his way around an office before the kids and is ready to venture out again.
• Someone wanting to supplement the income of their household but is not the main, or only source.
• A neighbor who could walk or bike to us.
• Someone with nothing left to organize and create systems for in their own life, and needing a new outlet for their innate, even somewhat compulsive skill. ;-)
Pay Scale.
Starting between $12 and $20 an hour, most likely around $15. If you are a super match and come up to speed quickly, then we would move you towards the higher end of the scale.
