Let me start by sharing why I love working with Heart of Business.

Throughout my life, I’ve witnessed how the business world can create havoc and mischief on a person’s health, well being, and livelihood. Yet, through the lens of Heart of Business teachings, I’ve seen how a person’s work can be a place of purpose and healing that is clearly making a difference in the world.

As an entrepreneur and teacher walking this business path, I am here as a guide to help you, as a business owner, find clarity amidst chaos, to know that you, as an entrepreneur, never need to traverse the world of business alone.

From an early age, I figured out that business is really about building healthy relationships.

I had my first business experience at age eight when my stepfather, a serial entrepreneur, helped my brother and sisters and I start a dry cleaning business. I still remember how excited I was to talk with the customers and do the interviews with all the local newspapers.

Years later, I went off to college at Arizona State to study business. After a year of listening to President Reagan’s chief advisor about economics, I chose to switch tracks and study Psychology. This led me to learning the science of mindfulness and human behavior.  It also cracked open a love for travel. I was able to connect with different cultures around the globe in Spain, the Middle East, and Central America.

Still I wanted more education, and I was on my way to considering a degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology when I took a left turn, as they say, and fell into studying the deep mysteries of Oriental Medicine. In becoming a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, I learned about herbs, acupuncture, and qi gong. I was living in New Mexico, and the year I graduated was invited to help build one of the first integrative medicine programs within a Western hospital.

After working several years in a clinical setting, I began to notice that most of my patients were overworked and facing incredibly high stress levels. I was a good Acupuncturist; however, my biggest strength was helping patients reconnect to themselves, so they could build healthier relationships with their health and work.

In 2001, I took a deeper step into the world of academia and began forming curriculum within the communication department at Marylhurst University. Classes I helped to design included Becoming the Healer; Healing Communication; and God, Sex, and Money.

A couple of years later, I went back to school yet again to be trained as a professional certified coach. With this, I began presenting a program entitled, “Meditation in the Workplace” to Providence Health Systems, Pacific NW, Wired.MD and many other large and small businesses around the Northwest.

In 2005, I got turned on to Non-Violent Communication (NVC) and its way of understanding human connection. By 2009, I was co-faciliating live NVC groups with my teacher, LaShelle Charde.

In 2007, I decided to combine my interest in education and coaching with my background in healing by accepting the Chair of Professional Development position at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM).  During this time, I’ve helped establish a professional development center for the college, revamped the business and communication curriculum to include Heart of Business materials, and completed a research scholars program under world-renowned leader of acupuncture research, Richard Hammerschlag, PhD.

Whew! That was a mouthful, but I’d still like to share a bit about my personal side. I love making life an adventure. I’ve swum with dolphins, dogsled in the wilderness, and run with the bulls in Spain. Business to me is all about the relationships, and nothing has taught me more about that than being a parent to my daughter Sierra and son Jack. I’m a spiritually driven guy, who can be found meditating in the morning and watching sports in the afternoon.

Life is filled with people who wish to see you succeed. As one of those people, I am here to serve you, and my commitment is to help you create work that you love, work that is filled with fun and adventure.
